Processing times and payment
The rules for sickness benefit vary, depending on your work and your current situation. Find the rules that apply to you here.
Application and payment
You apply for sickness benefit once the sick leave period is over. If your application is processed and granted before the 15th of the month, the money will be paid by the 25th of the same month.
For applications granted after the 15th of the month, benefit will be paid within five days of completion of processing. These dates also apply to people who have to apply for sickness benefit using a printed form.
If you have submitted your application online, you do not need to submit one on paper as well.
Sick leave that lasts more than 31 days
If the sick leave period lasts more than 31 days, the period will automatically be split up, and you can submit an application for sickness benefit before the period has ended.
Here you can find information about the processing times in your county.
Overview of payments
You can log in and see all the payments you have received from NAV in the past three years. Note that benefits paid by the municipality are not displayed in this service.
Holiday pay from NAV is paid before the end of May of the year after the holiday pay was earned. Read more about the rules for holiday and sickness benefit.
If an application is granted before 6 December, the money will be paid on 10 December. Applications granted after 6 December will be paid within five days of completion of processing.
Payments for December that are paid in December have tax withholdings deducted at half the usual rate, whereas payments made in December for sick leave in earlier months have tax withholdings deducted at the ordinary rate. Read more about tax deductions.
