How to
Parental Consent
If you are under 18 and want help from Nav your parents or legal guardians must give their consent.
Why is consent needed?
From age 16, you can get support from Nav to finish school or find a job. But because you are still under 18, your parents or guardians must say “yes” before Nav can follow you up. This is because people under 18 are legally minors.
Who must give consent?
Usually your mother and/or father, but it can also be another adult who officially has parental responsibility.
If you're unsure who that is, it is listed in the Norwegian Population Register – Folkeregisteret (skatteetaten.no).
When do you need consent?
To register so you can receive follow-up from Nav, we must first receive a signed consent form from your parent(s) or guardian(s).
What can parents consent to?
By giving consent, your parents or guardians allow Nav to help you with things like:
- Registering as a job seeker
- Getting a Nav advisor
- Receiving follow-up during school or training
- Joining work-related programs
- Getting follow-up through Nav’s Youth Guarantee
The consent form explains more about what parents/guardians can agree to.
What can parents decide?
Once you are registered, the follow-up mainly happens between you and your Nav advisor. Parents or other support persons can be involved if you want them to or if it is needed.
Your parents have the right to access your case information until you turn 18. They can also withdraw their consent at any time. This may change the type of help you receive from Nav.
How do parents give consent?
The consent form must be filled out by the person(s) with parental responsibility and can be submitted digitally or sent by post.
