Add or change bank account number
Make sure the correct account number is registered when you apply for financial support from Nav. You can see and change your account number by logging in to nav.no.
Get payments to your bank account
If you have a bank account, or can get one, we recommend registering your account number with Nav. That way, your money will be transferred safely straight into your account.
You may only have one account number registered with Nav as a private individual. The account number is also used for payments that Nav makes on behalf of The Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (Statens pensjonskasse).
How to add or change account number
If you log in to nav.no with BankID, Buypass or Comfides, you can change your account number in "Personal data".
Payment to a foreign bank account
Nav usually makes payments to Norwegian bank accounts. If you do not have a Norwegian bank account, you can register an account number from a foreign bank.
Please note that there is a fee for each payment sent abroad. It may also take longer for the money to reach your account. For some types of financial support, you must also be resident in Norway.
You can not change account number on nav.no if your payments come from the municipality or the Housing Bank. Find out how to change account number for:
You can not change the account number using nav.no when it comes to payments from the municipality, such as financial assistance and qualification benefit.
If you apply for financial assistance digitally, you can state your account number for payments in the application.
You can also contact your local Nav office to change your account number.
You can not change the account number using nav.no when it comes to payments from the Housing Bank, such as “housing allowances”. Then you must log on to husbanken.no.
You can also contact the housing benefit office in your municipality if you want to change the account number.
Are you unable to log in to nav.no?
You can send your account number change by post. You must include your Norwegian national identity number or D-number, and a copy of valid ID. Send the completed form to the address listed on the front page. Remember to sign the form!
Add or change Norwegian bank account
To add or change a Norwegian bank account number by post, you use the form called "Notification of new bank account number".
Payments to a foreign bank account
If you want your payments to be made to a foreign bank account, and you want to send the form by post, you must download a bank information form.
Valid identification is an ID card that contains date of birth, name, signature and photo, for example passport, driver's license, National ID card. You can also show valid ID in person at a Nav office.
Do you not have a bank account?
If you do not have, or are unable to get, a bank account, you may request a payment card from Nav. Please contact your local Nav office or call us at 55 55 33 33.
Using the payment card
The payment card can be used within Norway to purchase goods and services in shops, and to withdraw cash from shops and ATMs/cash machines. You can check your balance at an ATM/cash machine.
The card and PIN code will be sent separately. The payment card is personal. Please take care to keep both the card and the PIN code secure. The card is valid for three years.
