India - How to apply for pension?
If you live outside of Norway and want to apply for a pension according to the Agreement of social security between India and Norway you have to submit a paper application.
You will find the application forms you need in connection with retirement pensions, pension benefit and survivor’s pensions from the list below or under the heading "Realeted information".
The form (IN/NO 12) " Periods of residence and work in Norway" must be completed by all applicants when applying for a pension. You have to send the application forms with the required attachments to:

The Indian pension authorities will forward the application to the pension authorities in Norway.
Guidelines to the application process
Please read the guidelines to each application form before you fill out the application, as well as the general information about the pensions/benefits. Then you will better be able to assemble the necessary information for filling out the application and the necessary documentation to be enclosed with the application
Retirement pension/ old-age pension
Use the following applications if you wish to apply for a retirement pension, wish to change your retirement pension or wish to claim for supplement for dependants.
Please note that you should apply for your pension from twelve to six months prior to the date on which you want payments to begin. You cannot apply for a retroactive flexible retirement pension, and the earliest date on which you will be entitled to retirement pension will be the month after the Indian pension authorities have received your application.
Apply for an old-age /retirement pension
- Select "Application for national insurance retirement pension" and fill out the application form according to the guidelines provided.
- Fill out the form "Periods of residence and work in Norway"
- Print out and send both to the Indian pension authorities (EPFO)
Apply for a change in your old-age/retirement pension
Please note that you should apply for a change in your pension prior to the date on which you want your pension changed. You cannot apply for a change to take effect from a date before you submitted a claim for a change. You will be entitled to a change in your pension at the earliest the month after Indian pension authorities have received your application.
- Select "Changing your retirement pension"
- Fill out the application form
- Print out and send both to the Indian pension authorities (EPFO)
Apply for supplements for dependents
- Select "Claim for supplement for dependants"
- Fill out the application form
- Print out and send both to the Indian pension authorities (EPFO)
Disability benefit
Use the following application if you wish to apply for a disability benefit (pension) or wish to claim for supplement for dependant children. You can only apply for supplements for dependent children under the age of 18.
Apply for a disability benefit (pension)
- Select "Application for disability benefit"
- Enclose all the information and documentation required, including the medical evidence
- Fill out the application form according to the guidelines provided
- Fill out the form "Periods of residence and work in Norway"
- Print out and send both to the Indian pension authorities (EPFO).
Apply for child supplement – disability benefits
- Select "Application for child supplement-disability benefit"
- Enclose all the information and documentation required
- Fill out the application form according to the guidelines provided
- Print out and send both to the indian pension authorities (EPFO)
Survivor`s Pension
Here you will find application forms for survivor’s pension, for children’s pension when one or both parents have died and application forms for extended children’s pension after the age of 18.
Apply for benefits for surviving spouse / partner / cohabitant and surviving children
- Select "Application for benefits for surviving spouse / partner / cohabitant and surviving child(ren)"
- Fill out the application form
- Fill out the form "Periods of residence and work in Norway". It is important to complete the form with information about the deceased.
- Print out and send both to the Indian pension authorities (EPFO).
Please note that if found eligible you may be entitled to a pension from the month after the death of the insured person, but no earlier than three months before the date of application.
Apply for benefits for children’s pension when one parent has died
You may be eligible for such a pension if one of your parents has died. You will find more information in the information attached to the application form.
- Select "Application for children’s pension when one parent has died"
- Fill out the application form
- Fill out the form "Periods of residence and work in Norway". It is important to complete the form with information about the deceased.
- Print out and send both to the Indian pension authorities (EPFO)
Apply for benefits for children’s pension for orphaned children
You may be eligible for such a pension if both your parents have died. You will find more information in the information attached to the application form.
- Select "Application for children’s pension for orphaned children"
- Fill out the application form according to the guidelines provided
- Fill out the form "Periods of residence and work in Norway" .It is important to complete the form with information about the deceased.
- Print out and send both to the Indian pension authorities (EPFO)
Apply for extended children’s pension after reaching 18 years of age
You may only eligible for such a pension if you are an orphan or are entitled to a children’s pension due to one parent’s occupational death. You will find more information in the information attached to the application form.
- Select "Application for children’s pension for orphaned children".
- Fill out the application form according to the guidelines provided
- Fill out the form "Periods of residence and work in Norway". It is important to complete the form with information about the deceased. If you already receive a children´s pension, you don’t need to send this form.
- Print out and send both to the Indian pension authorities (EPFO)
