Voluntary tax deductions
A voluntary tax deduction means that you ask Nav to deduct more tax than what is indicated on your tax card. It is also called extra tax deduction.
How to set up voluntary tax deductions
If you want extra tax deducted, you must notify Nav. Voluntary tax deduction is only available for taxable benefits.
You may request voluntary deduction if you receive:
- Adjustment allowance
- Care, attendance, and training benefits
- Children's pension (requires a separate digital form)
- Contractual pension (AFP)
- Disability benefit
- Parental and maternity/paternity benefits
- Payments from the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund
- Retirement pension
- Sickness benefit
- Supplementary benefit for disabled refugees under 67
- Supplementary benefit for persons over 67
- Transitional benefit for single parents
- Unemployment benefit
You cannot request voluntary tax deduction on tax-free financial benefits, such as child benefit.
Notification of voluntary tax deduction
This is a voluntary agreement valid until the end of the current year. Additional tax deductions will apply to all months, including ordinary tax-free months.
Voluntary tax deduction for children’s pension
Nav will deduct 17 percent in advance tax when paying out children’s pension. You use this form if you wish to have more tax deducted from the children’s pension.
A parent or guardian must register voluntary tax deduction on the children’s pension until the child turns 18. After the child has turned 18, they must register the voluntary tax deduction themselves.
If you are unable to log in or print the form, you can send a letter to Nav requesting voluntary tax deduction. Be sure to include:
- The benefit you want extra deduction for
- The desired additional amount (in NOK or percentage per month)
- Your name, national ID number, and signature
Send the letter to:
- For pensions, disability benefits, child pension, and adjustment allowance:
Nav Pensjon, Postboks 6600 Etterstad, 0607 Oslo
- For all other benefits from Nav:
Nav Økonomi Stønad, Postboks 354, 8601 Mo i Rana
How voluntary tax deduction works
Voluntary deduction starts the month after registration and applies for the rest of the year.
It also applies to holiday pay and periods that would otherwise be tax-free.
If you register digitally
If you choose a fixed amount (in NOK), and receive multiple benefits from Nav, the full monthly amount will be deducted from the benefit paid out first in the month.
If you choose a percentage, it will be applied to all taxable benefits from Nav.
If you want deduction from only one specific benefit, you must contact Nav by phone.
If you submit the form by mail
If you receive multiple benefits and want deduction from all of them, you must submit a separate form for each benefit.
Want to change the amount or stop the deduction?
If you wish to change or stop your voluntary tax deduction, you can do so in the same way you originally submitted the request. That means you can either log in at nav.no, print and mail the form or send a letter to Nav.
