ECOS- 2020, Text and Context

When: 28th - 30th August.

Where: Trondheim, Norway.

With speech-to-text interpreting we focus on typing speed, the latest technology and making sure we are equipped to step into any situation where our services are needed. This year at ECOS, we want to make room for conversations about the interpreter. In what ways does context affect the interpreting choices we make? How can we best cooperate with the users of our services? How can we adjust to different service users and situations we meet - how do we adjust our writing and appearance? And, do we dare take the space we need so that we can do our job in the best way possible?

We will explore reading and reading comprehension. Is there a limit to how much text you can read without it affecting performance, and are there ways of writing and subtitling that can make the experience better, for both interpreter and service user?

All talks will be given in English.

For more information about the program and our speakers, please join the ECOS 2020 open facebook group. All information will be posted there.

About the Conference

The conference venue is on the premises of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), conveniently located in the city center.

The venue is right next to what used to be the first school for the deaf in Norway. Today the old school building houses the Norwegian Deaf Museum, a nice atmosphere for the conference.

The conference opens at 12:00 noon on Friday the 28th of August.

Upon arrival, a light cold lunch will be served as you register and mingle with the other attendees.

On Friday evening, your included dinner will be at restaurant NordØst Food and Cocktails. We will walk to the restaurant together, touring along the beautiful Nidelven, past the Nidaros Cathedral and picturesque Bakklandet.

This years ECOS is organised by the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration, the Assistive Technology Centre in Trøndelag region (NAV Hjelpemiddelsentral Trøndelag).
