Young disabled persons
As disability benefit is a substitute for lost income due to disability, young disabled persons are ensured a basic rate, which is higher than for others.
The conditions for being granted entitlement as a young disabled person are:
- you were under 26 years old when you became seriously and permanently ill
- your illness has been clearly documented by a doctor / specialist.
- you are applying for disability benefit before turning 36, if you have been working more than 50% after turning 26.
Entitlement as a young disabled person will be paid from when you turn 20. Your marital status determines the size of the basic benefit you will receive as a young disabled person.
- If you are a young disabled person and are living together with your spouse, partner or are in a cohabiting relationship, the basic annual benefit is 2.66 times the National insurance basic amount (G).
- If you are a young disabled person and are single, the basic annual benefit is 2.91 times the National insurance basic amount (G).
