You have the right to information, advice and guidance, regardless of whether you are already in a difficult situation or if you receive other services from NAV.

You are entitled to receive information, advice and guidance from NAV that can help solve or prevent social problems.

What does information, advice and guidance mean? 

All public agencies are required to provide information, advice and guidance about their services.


If you need any assistance from other government agencies, the municipality and the NAV office will help you establish contact so that you get the help you need.

NAV may also need to cooperate with other agencies to be able to provide you with the best possible help. For example, NAV may work with schools, follow-up services, child services, child and adolescent psychiatry and district psychiatric centers (DPS).

Who can receive advice and guidance?

You do not have to be experiencing difficulties in order to receive advice and guidance from your local NAV office. To receive advice and guidance, you must usually contact your local NAV office. Your local NAV office will then offer to meet you to find out what your needs are.

In some cases, your local NAV office may on its own initiative provide information, advice and guidance if this can help resolve or prevent social problems.

If you are receiving financial assistance, advice and guidance can help support your ability to fend for yourself.


Advisers and case workers at the NAV office have a duty of confidentiality. You may request that your meeting is held in another appropriate location.
