Individuals who use above-the-wrist arm prostheses or above-the-ankle leg prostheses automatically qualify for rate 1 of the basic benefit.
Rates for Basic benefit, Attendance benefit and Higher rate attendance benefit
There is no age limit on basic benefits, with the exception that additional transport-related expenses as a result of impaired functional ability after the age of 70 are not covered.
Your need for the benefit and the rates you qualify for may change over time. If your application is granted, you may at a later date receive notice that your benefit will be reassessed. In these cases, you will receive a letter requesting that you submit information about your current situation, and documentation that you still need the benefit.
You must submit a written application for basic benefit. The form is listed under the heading of “Form and application”
In your application, you must provide the name of the doctor or doctors treating you, and the doctor’s address. You do not need to submit medical information.
If you are applying for basic benefits to cover wear and tear on clothing and bed linen, you must include the form “Ekstrautgifter til slitasje på klær og sengetøy”.
You must also provide documentation of the additional expenses (e.g. receipts or a summary or list of likely recurring expenses). Normally, you must document your additional expenses by providing receipts from a period of no less than three months.
When applying for basic benefit due to ADHD or hyperkinetic disorder, you do not need to enclose documentation for extra expenses.
If you are applying for basic benefits to cover transport-related expenses, you must include the form “Grunnstønad til særskilt transport/drift av egen bil”.
If your need for basic benefits changes, or your income or family and/or work situation changes, or if you move or are planning a stay abroad, this may significantly affect your payments from NAV. That is why you must report any changes to NAV immediately.
See Payment dates, holiday pay and tax withholding. You can also check your payments using the Utbetalingsoversikt service.
If the benefit is for your child, you will not find information about the payment here, as benefits to children under the age of 18 are paid to the child’s bank account.
If this bank account has not been registered, or if you specified another account number, please let us know (text in Norwegian). Read more about changing account numbers or contact information.
The annual statement will be sent to the child. Call NAV at 55 55 33 33 for payment information about your child.
Most of the main information about your entitlements and duties is available here in English. There are also links to other more detailed information; however, some of this information is only available in Norwegian.
