For NAV to be able to pay unemployment benefit in the period 20 December to 1 January, and in the period from Palm Sunday (the Sunday before the Easter weekend) to Easter Monday, the temporary lay-off must last longer than six weeks.
However, if the temporary lay-off is due to an accident, natural circumstances or other unpredictable events, you are entitled to unemployment benefit for these periods, even if you are laid off for less than six weeks.
The company should apply to NAV’s county office for exemption from the rules concerning temporary lay-off in connection with Christmas and Easter. The application must be submitted via the company’s local NAV office.
