You must attach the necessary supporting documentation (you should arrange copies yourself) in order for your claim for unemployment
benefit to be processed.
Supporting documentation for employment
Employment contract and notice from/a work record of all employments in the last six months. If you have not had a contract
for regular weekly work in the last six months before your working hours were reduced, you must submit supporting documentation
for all employments in the last twelve months. If you have not been employed in the last twelve months, you must submit supporting
documentation for all employments during the last three completed calendar years unless your last employment had regular weekly
working hours for no less than six months.
Details that must be included in the documents:
- Employment’s start and termination date.
- Working hours per week
- Reason for termination (if you gave notice yourself as an alternative to being terminated on the grounds of downsizing,
this must be documented)
- Term of notice
- Date of termination
If you do not have your notice/work record, or if you have had reduced or variable working hours, you must attach the form
'Confirmation of reason for termination' (NAV 04-08.03).
Documentary support for income
NAV normally obtains income details from the Norwegian Revenue Service.
During the January to mid-February period, the previous year’s income must be supported by:
- Pay and deductions statement. Pay slips for December where the total income paid for the year is shown.
- Annual statement from NAV
Tax card (original)
Part 1 (alternatively part 2, when a percentage rate is deducted).
Other documents that may be required as attachments
For those who have responsibility for dependants or as a non-custodial parent
Birth certificate or residence certificate for children under 18 years who are your dependants or for whom you are the non-custodial
parent.
For child supplement claims for children resident in another EEA country, you must submit form E-302.
For those who are not Norwegian citizens
- Residence and work permits.
For those who have been temporarily laid off
- Temporary lay-off notice stating reason for lay-off, period of lay-off and for which days the employer is legally required
to pay you.
Applications for advance payment of unemployment benefit following business failure
Claims for unemployment benefit following compu8lsory military service/compulsory civilian national service
- Service certificate. This must clearly show the period during which the service was carried out.
For those who have been at school/students for the last six months
- Documentary evidence of official closure of educational institute or date of the last final examination taken, or confirmation
from the school that you have completed studies if your school attendance has been interrupted.
For those receiving severance pay from employer
- Copy of termination contract that shows the period for which you were paid or the total severance pay amount, together with
details about your standard pay per month before you left.
For those who have worked in another EU/EEA country
- It may be appropriate to submit form E-301 from the country where you worked.
For those over 64 years and who submit claims for unemployment benefit based on previous self-employed income
- Copy of tax return, stamped and signed by tax assessment office.
For those who have been employed at sea
- Discharge book/evidence of last engagement settlement.
For those in education/attending courses at time of application
- Supporting documentation must be submitted and you must apply on a separate form (NAV 04-06.05) to retain unemployment benefit while you are studying.
